A Spanish style home by architect Paul Kingsbury in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles has been listed for $1.775 million.
The 3 bed, 3 bath, 2,830 square foot home was built in 1927, and has since been restored and updated. The villa, just north of Los Feliz Boulevard in the gently sloping foothills below Griffith Park, now features a laundry list of luxury amenities:
“A gourmet kitchen, high-end custom finishes inside and out, Walker Zanger tile, custom period fixtures, polished magnesite dining room floor, sunroom off master, living room & backyard tile fireplaces, professional landscaping, 2 fountains with custom Malibu tile, built in BBQ, and 3 balconies with reclaimed French terracotta tile.”
Paul Kingsbury, while not as well known as other Los Angeles architects of his era, designed such buildings as the Little Country Church of Hollywood (which burned in 2007) and the Arcadia City Hall. AIA records also indicate (PDF) that he performed design work on Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel, the McCarty Memorial Christian Church (which was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2002,) and Le Marquise Apartments, among others (more on Kingsbury here.)
Kingsbury graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture in 1916, had his career briefly interrupted by service in World War I, and began his own practice in 1928. He died in 1949.
